But before we start, let’s look at the end result shall we. What was it the client wanted?
With the mix of earthy green, crisp white, warm timbers and textures, this Airbnb kitchen is both highly functional and welcoming for all its future guests. The vision for this Adelaide hills Airbnb kitchen was to create a space that referenced the colours of bush in a classic, warm way. The result is a kitchen that nestles beautifully into an overall vision that starts at the front door and weaves throughout this beautiful hills accommodation.
How far we’ve come.

The Design Direction.
So how did this beautiful kitchen come to be?
Well after our initial design consultation together where I came away with a good idea of my client’s style, wants and needs for the space, I was able to put together:
A mood board of the overall space (as this project also involved laying new floors, window furnishings and design direction around the entry).
Specific mood and concept boards for the kitchen itself.
A flat lay of potential samples & colours for the space.
Overall look and feel of the home. This gives us a direction to keep in mind as we move forward in our design.

Documentation & Planning phase.
This is where a lot of the heavy lifting of the project takes place. I draw up 2D and 3D drawings for my client to review and approve in this phase, as well as provide these for tradespeople so that we all understand the project clearly. Here is where quoting and then manufacturing of the kitchen takes place.

Installation Phase.
Here I work with cabinet makers and other trades either of the client’s choosing, or who I have worked with previously and love their quality and professionalism. For this project the wonderful Fisher Kitchen & Cabinets did an amazing job at manufacturing and installing this kitchen. My role in this phase is to oversee the design direction and ensure that all the elements are coming together as planned.
How we achieved this look:
Let’s show you some more of the finished project and the design elements that went into it..
High functioning kitchen
As the eat-in kitchen was a compact space, designing the kitchen to sit along one wall made the best use of the room overall. The kitchen included open shelving for decorative items, but also lots of closed storage for a laundry and appliance cupboard to all sit within this wall, but out of sight when not in use. Add the earthy green cabinetry and fresh white handles and the kitchen is a statement in it’s own right!
2. Cohesive Timber
By choosing a mid toned timber-look flooring to run throughout the living and bedroom spaces the accommodation feels streamlined and visually large whilst warm and suited to it’s rural setting. Running this flooring right from the front door sets up that cosy feel from the moment you set foot inside.
3. Fresh window coverings
From light bright shutters in the living areas to textured warm curtains in the bedrooms, window coverings are those details that elevate a space. Guests will interact with them daily and having been chosen for quality and aesthetics there is a level of luxury that they bring to the space overall.
Having the kitchen all along one wall makes the best use of space in this home. This frees up the rest of the room for a dining area and island bench seating.
I love the mix of timbers in this kitchen as it gives an instant layered, lived in feel for this hills kitchen.
This image shows the beautiful plantation shutters that we had installed, along with the timber look vinyl plank flooring which was laid throughout the Airbnb property.
It’s always a treat when the kitchen is it’s own room and I love how this door way frames it so well.
