Here is my part 2 blog outlining the 2022 interior design trends and how you can incorporate them into your home. Let me recap if you didn’t catch last month’s blog that each year there are interior design trends that show up in various ways throughout interiors. Design trends influence how designers and consumers think about contemporary design and they dictate to a degree what it means to be on the front foot of design.

8. DESIGN TREND - Curved & sculptural furniture
If you look around the shops at the moment you will notice lots of curved furniture. Custom made sofas and arm chairs, as well as coffee tables, side tables, dining tables and mirrors are seen throughout interiors, both in residential homes and commercial spaces. Curves are trending for a variety of reasons, one being they are playful and fun and fit nicely into both a contemporary, classic and retro design styles. They also mimic nature with their organic shapes and so they tend to make us feel safe and cosy, whilst also softening our living spaces.
TIPS
You can try out curves in smaller ways in your home through mirrors, vases, trays, decorative vessels and table lamps. If you don’t have a contemporary, classic or retro leaning choose items that fit within your design style instead.
If you love the curved trend and aren’t looking to update bigger furniture choices you could instead choose a curved side table or coffee table to introduce this element into your home.
Rounded armchairs or dining chairs are options to try out curves as you can find these pieces in many design styles.
The Proper Hotel designed by Kelly Weastler is full of curves. This trend is not slowing down any time soon as it brings such movement and interest to a space.
9. DESIGN TREND - Warm colour palette
Whilst we still love our neutrals there is a distinct shift towards a warmer colour palette in this year’s interiors. Many are moving away from a stark white interior towards ‘warm minimalism’ which embraces colours with a yellow, orange or red undertone. In many cases this is due to people having spent lots of time at home over the last few years and wanting their home to feel more retreat-like, cocooning and enveloping. This colour palette can be used subtly or by bringing more saturated warm colours into your space. If you naturally gravitate towards a warmer feel in your home, this trend will be one you will want to adopt!
TIPS
Paint is the cheapest and most transforming tool to change the feel in your home. Consider painting rooms that feel cold or clinical in a lovely warm shade.
If you have a lot of grey furniture pieces in your home you can warm these up by adding cushions and throws that have those warmer undertones.
If you love colour now’s your opportunity to experiment with any earthy tones either on your walls right down to smaller decorative pieces.

10. DESIGN TREND - Abundance of brown
Here we see another trend driven out of our love for nature and the outdoors - the rise of brown in interiors. As we love our earthy colours this shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. We are moving away from a lot of pastels and looking for richer colours such as chocolate browns which bring a calm and warm quality to any space. This use of brown is seen in our choice of neutrals as well as we look for those with brown undertones. If you’ve secretly always loved brown (a child from the 70’s perhaps) you now have permission to embrace this colour in its entirety, and for the rest of you be assured of the warmth and comfort chocolate, coffee and chestnut hues can bring.
TIPS
Don’t feel like you need to sell on your brown furniture, rather incorporate it with other complimentary colours to bring a balance to your space.
If you are considering repainting, look for a neutral with a brown undertone rather than grey for a cocooning interior.
If you have a lot of grey already in your space try adding tan brown to bring some warmth and balance.
You can mix brown with sage green, brass and warm whites for a modern look, or with forest green, crisp whites and deep pinks for a more traditional feel.
If you love the earthy vibe browns with terracotta, beige and blushes are a match made in heaven…

11. DESIGN TREND - Adding vintage pieces
Well this is a 2022 design trend that is music to my ears. Every room looks more grounded and authentic with a vintage piece added to it and this is a strong trend this year. This is in part due to the fact that buying vintage is a sustainable choice, and we are more conscious than ever of our environmental footprint. These pieces also bring a sense of character and story that is unique, which means they help create spaces that stand apart from others which is appealing to many. It’s out with the ‘cookie cutter’ department store look and in with the meaningful, collected look that only vintage can help you achieve.
TIPS
Rummage through your back shed and garage to see what vintage pieces may be hiding there that you can bring inside.
Ask parents or grandparents if they have meaningful items you can borrow or have for your home. They can be furniture, or smaller pieces like vases, picture frames or table lamps.
Support your local community by visiting antique shops in your area or look for pre-loved items online. Either way you are making a sustainable choice.
Take photos of your spaces first to see what vintage items would work best for you in terms of size, function and style.
Vintage pieces add character to a new space so it’s no surprise this is a strong 2022 trend. This design is by Amber Lewis Interiors.
12. DESIGN TREND - Including texture
This 2022 design trend is all about adding more depth, interest and comfort to our interiors. When all the items in our spaces are of the same sheen level and smoothness there is a lack of authenticity and more a feeling you get in a furniture show room, this is what we want to steer away from. So it’s all things texture this year which this allows you to play with all sorts of texture to find the mix that suits you. Consider textiles like window coverings, cushions, rugs and upholstered furniture that are highly tactile and you can’t go wrong.
TIPS
Each room needs a combination of different textures so start by noting down the textures you have in each space. From here you can understand what additional textures you might want to add more easily.
Mix rough textures such as jute, sisal, some loop pile carpets and knobbly cushions with medium textures like linens and velvet and smooth/higher gloss elements such as marble, glass and ceramics.
Hand made wreaths, foliage and metal decor pieces are lovely decorative items full of texture.

13. DESIGN TREND - Modern grand millennial style
This design trend is about embracing a style from the past but with a modern twist. There is a resurgence in what is being called our grandparent’s style with it’s use of bold pattern and florals and mixing it with contemporary pieces. If you love traditional pieces and details with a full injection of colour and pattern you will love the Modern grand millennial style. This trend is here partly because people are moving away from a monochromatic catalogue look and gravitating to the nostalgia of the past, but of course with a fresh spin added. If this sounds like you then you have a current design trend green light to decorate away!
TIPS
The best way to make this style work for you is with a restrained colour palette. This way the space is full and colourful without being overwhelming visually.
A no clutter policy works best for this look as this allows your carefully curated pieces (both old and new) to be fully appreciated.
If you have curved and heavily detailed traditional pieces add modern items with clean lines. Using the same principle boldly patterned wallpapers work a treat with block coloured fabrics.
If you love colour and pattern you aren’t disappointed in the 2022 interior trends. A modern take on the grand millennial style is continuing to make many people smile! Design by the talented Anna Spiro.
14. DESIGN TREND - Elevating the outdoor space
As we are yearning outside time more than ever our outdoor spaces have become increasingly important. We are prioritising them equally (at times more highly) to our inside spaces, as our connection to nature is of vital importance. Outdoor spaces are often places we host family and friends and another reason this area of our homes is taking our focus. This design trend has emerged as we want to invest in this space to make it more comfortable, functional and useable as many of us are spending more time at home for work and relaxation.
TIPS
Clean and tidy up the outdoor space you already have. Often a good sweep and gentle clean of the floor and furniture pieces creates a space we want to spend time in again.
Adding a durable outside rug and cushions will instantly elevate your outdoor area. Think about where you will store these items in winter or high rainfall times.
Think about how you can add music (portable speakers), mood lighting (fairy lights, LED lamps), heating and cooling (gas heaters/extra rugs, ceiling fans/shading) to make your outdoor space a place you don’t want to leave!

So that’s a wrap of the final seven 2022 interior design trends and how you can use them in your own home. So now you have 14 design trends in total that you can use in your space (see my previous blog for the first seven if you missed it). Pick and choose which ones speak to you, and don’t be afraid to experiment as often it takes time to land on a look you love!
Incorporating design trends into your home doesn’t have to be difficult, all it takes is some small steps to add the elements into your space in a way that feels right to you. Every home is different and it’s important that yours is unique to you. Rather than feeling like you have to follow the trends, instead think about which ones resonate and follow the tips I’ve outlined as a starting point.
A layered and considered interior takes time and skill to look effortless.
