Interested in the interior design of this Adelaide Hills living room project?
Let me walk you through one of my latest projects and give you all the details…
The Client’s wants and needs.
But before I start on the design of this space, let’s look at what was it the client wanted.
With a client that loved a connection to nature, a colour palette of neutrals, greens, terracotta and mustard tones, and her collection of travel and family pieces - this lounge room refresh references all these elements to be in keeping with the feel of the whole home.
The Design Direction.
So how did this lounge room refresh take shape?
After our initial design consultation together I came away with a good idea of my client’s style, wants and needs for the space. From here I put together my client’s brief which included the following:
A washable, soft rug
Cushions and throw for sofa and armchair
Artwork and candles for mantle piece
A collection of coffee table books for open shelves
Styling pieces to help elevate and fill out open shelves
With this information I went to work and pulled together the specific pieces in keeping with my client’s overall design vision.
After collating my design I then presented it for my client’s feedback and review (always an exciting part of the process)!
2. The Concept Design Phase.
After receiving feedback from my client on the items that I selected for her new space, I put together a concept board to show how they all sit together as a whole.
3. Complying Shopping List Phase.
From here is the practical phase of complying a shopping list with all the details needed for my client to purchase the new items for her space.
4. Styling and Photography.
Because this client was local to me, I had the joy of helping her style her lounge room with all her new and sentimental items. After styling, depending on the projects I will also take some photography which in this case I did. I think it’s come up beautifully!
Let’s show you some more of the finished project and the design elements that went into it..
Highlight pieces
Mixing new pieces with existing sentimental items created a living space that feels layered and homely. Styling the shelves with this mix creates a look that has been collected over time.
2. Colour scheme
Honing in on a specific colour palette of neutrals, greens, terracotta, blush and mustard tones when sourcing the rug, cushions, artwork and decor pieces produced a space that was cohesive and oh so cosy!
3. Functionality
The combination of pets, a wood heater and a large property to maintain meant choosing a washable rug that was still soft to sit on and easy to maintain was vital for this Adelaide Hill’s property.
What do you think of this beautiful Adelaide Hills lounge room refresh project? It was a lovely project to be involved in.
I hope that walking you through the process of a styling project with an interior designer has been helpful if it’s something you’ve wondered about as well.
