8 Things to do for last minute Spring Styling Success.

It’s not too late to style your home for Spring..

Here’s how.

  1. Embrace the colours of Spring.

Whether you’re drawn to the pinks of the new blossoms on the trees, the lime green of the new leaves, or the yellow of scrumptious lemons and daffodils now’s the time to bring some of this colour inside. These spring colours can be brought in through decor pieces (think soft furnishings, picture frames and ceramics), or more literally by taking some foliage/bulbs from your garden and popping them in a vase. Pick a room that needs a pick-me-up and watch what this sort of colour injection can do.

  2. Throw the curtains back.

Now that the weather is fairing up and the garden is transforming, it’s time to get as much natural light and views into your living space as possible. So pull back your curtains, or even swap them out for a sheer or light weight alternative. Heavier materials remind us of the cold so think light and airy fabrics to welcome the sunshine in. And you know what comes next…time to wash your windows. Your home will feel automatically more Spring ready.

3. Rotate your cushions and throws.

While we’re on the topic of lighter fabrics and colours, now’s the time to think about your cushions and throws. Start in your main living areas then progress to the bedrooms and start editing each space by packing away heavy knit throws and dark toned cushions. Swap these out with cushions in lighter tones and cotton or linen throws. Perhaps you could purchase a few new cushions to achieve this look. A change is as good as a holiday and a Spring home needs to feel fresh and crisp.

4. Introduce fresh pieces to your coffee table.

If your anything like me your space has grown a little stale and you haven’t moved things around in a while. What better place to start than with your coffee table. Take everything off, give it a good wipe down, and intentionally choose meaningful, fresh and nurturing items to group together. Always include something living, and a mix of practical and purely beautiful things to adorn this surface. Your coffee table will thank you for it and you’ll smile every time you come home.

5. Indulge all the 5 senses.

Spring is the time to pamper the senses. After a long season of cold and barrenness it’s time for a good dose of self care. Move around your home and choose one room at a time to inject things that are lovely to see, smell, touch, hear or taste. Ideas like changing up your music play list, lighting a fresh scented candle, placing a beautiful picture in a spot you’ll see everyday, putting some seasonal fruit within easy reach and introducing some different bed linen or throws all fall in this category. Your home really will feel so much better for these simple additions.

6. Put some love into neglected corners.

Spaces in our home like laundries and bathrooms can be lacking some love and attention. Well, not any more! Why not use the beginning of Spring as the time to indulge these areas with some special soap or hand cream, or a nice potted plant or basket? I love nothing more than walking into my bathroom and having it feel fresh and welcoming with small little additions that soften the space. Add to that an open window to allow the breeze in and the sound of the birds and suddenly you won’t want to leave.

7. Focus on the indoor/outdoor flow.

Now that Spring is here it’s time to be intentional with the indoor/outdoor flow in your home. Making sure there is enough space to easily move between inside and outside will encourage more engagement with nature, so this may mean moving furniture away from exit points in your home as you want the flow to outdoors to feel natural and effortless! Designating a space outside for alfresco dining, along with comfortable chairs and some shade will mean you will meander outdoors more and enjoy all this season has to offer.

8. Dedicate time to de-clutter.

Last, but certainly not least is the art of de-cluttering. Moving out items that no longer serve you means you can appreciate all the more what you choose to keep in your home. Others may well benefit from the things you no longer need and your home will feel more spacious because of it. So consider moving from room to room during Spring and tackling the de-cluttering with gusto.
