Rebecca McNicol
Hi. I’m Rebecca. I’m the founder and Interior Designer/Decorator here at Design Release.
MY BEGINNINGS
Well I haven’t always been an Interior Designer and Decorator. In fact I haven’t come from the design industry initially either. Rather I began my career as a midwife. This very special job was something that taught me many important things about life, family and how a safe place is where people truly feel free to be themselves.
It really is the lessons I learnt whilst being a midwife in relationships, trust, communication, listening, perseverance, persistence, organisation, problem solving, working under pressure
MY TRANSITION
It was during my time as a midwife that my husband Cam and I decided to start a family. So after the birth of my first child Hamish, I moved out of the demands of on-call midwifery into the demands of parenting! I threw myself into motherhood and enjoyed being full-time Mum to my three for the last 14 years. Despite the challenges it has been wonderful to invest intentional time into my kids. I have learnt more about myself than I could have otherwise, and those lessons in patience, self-discipline and understanding have been pretty constant!
MY CAREER CHANGE
It wasn’t until my youngest child was preparing to start Kindergarten that I decided to put legs on my love for interior design. Whilst I had been enjoying decorating my own home and helping friends and family do the same for many years, to say yes to pursuing it in a formal way felt liberating and significant. Interior design was a love that had been swirling around in my head since I was a teenager and finally the timing to jump into it 100% felt right. So jump in I did! I completed a Certificate IV in Design in 2015 and a Diploma in Interior Design and Decoration at TAFE in 2017. Since then I have continued to help those around me to choose paint colours, tiles, bench tops, rugs, furniture, window coverings, feature lights, artwork and the best layout for many a room, and I’d love to help you to!
